About the FÖJ

The Voluntary Ecological Year (Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr, FÖJ) is an educational and orientation year for teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 26. We offer you a comprehensive insight into various "green professions" and let you try your own hand. The focal points of your year with us are: Educational and public relations work, practical nature conservation tasks, technical environmental protection and forestry work.
We expect you to be interested in environmental protection and nature conservation and to work full time. In return, we offer you accommodation, pocket money, 26 vacation days, accident and social insurance, work clothes and tools.

The FÖJ usually lasts from September 1st to August 31st and includes 5 weeks of seminars.

Field report

Hi, we'd like to briefly introduce ourselves – we're Merle, Tabea, and Philipp – and we're currently completing our voluntary ecological year (FÖJ) here at the Forest Experience Center (WEZ) in Füssen-Ziegelwies. During this time, we're gaining insights into various areas of work at the WEZ and the forestry office. We're fortunate to be able to experience the Lech River, the forests, and the beautiful mountain scenery in the surrounding area, which we also enjoy in our free time through many activities.

Our work itself encompasses areas such as forest education, forestry work, and crafts. For example, we lead guided tours, organize holiday programs, maintain the adventure trails at the WEZ, and help with planting and clearing work in the forest. We're really looking forward to spending as much time as possible outdoors in the fresh air and gaining new experiences!
